Also note that permits are limited to a specific period of time and you may have to renew your permit during your period of study.
Please apply for your study permit at the South African High Commission, Embassy, Consulate or Trade Mission in your country of origin. If there is no South African representative in your country, your application should be directed to the Commission, Embassy, Consulate or Trade Mission in the country nearest to your home country.
When applying for a study permit you must have the following:

- a letter of provisional admission from the IHT Hotel School
- a medical certificate
- proof of medical cover that will be valid in South Africa or details of arrangements made with regard to medical cover or insurance to be obtained on arrival

You are also advised to submit an application for a multiple entry visa. Please note that you might be required to pay a fee for a re-entry visa.
If you are in possession of an International Medical Cover, kindly ensure that there are official English translations and that the contact details of the scheme are clearly stated and legible. The contract must also clearly stipulate the benefits in detail.
To be successful in your studies, you need a certain level of proficiency in English. This includes a pass in English at A-level or O-level; a Test in English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 550, or a 6.5 on the International Testing System (IELTS).
During the selection process, you will also be required to complete an English Language Proficiency Test.
